Weight loss

Successful Dieters (From the National Weight Control Registry):

  1. Often have an emotional trigger or life event that provokes them to start and stay on a diet
  2. Most don't go off diets even on holidays or weekends and demonstrate a high level of cognitive control as measured in cognitive restraint tests
  3. They use self monitoring tools to keep a detailed log of their weight, calories, and activities
  4. Those who are able to maintain weight loss for 2 years are more likely to maintain that loss
  5. They exercise the equivalent of 1 hour per day of moderate intensity exercise such as brisk walking overall expending 2500 to 3000 calories per week in exercise
    • Vigorous exercise for 35 min/day also maintains weight loss

Weight loss requires a caloric deficit.
